RODRIGUEZ LEDESMA, Xavier. 1968: Reconfiguration of Frontiers between Intellectuals and Power in Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2018, vol.63, n.234, pp.133-151. ISSN 0185-1918. https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2018.234.65556.
The article examines the way in which 1968 represented a moment of definition within the republic of letters, as two distinct ways of behaving can be clearly identified vis-à-vis the tragic events. On the one hand, there were those writers who felt obliged to criticize the authoritarian and violent reaction of the Díaz Ordaz’ administration against the student movement and, on the other, literature icons who supported the regime -actively or silently- as they had a post within the administration or shared its political and ideological position. Finally, the author refers to the impact this dispute had on the understanding of the role of intellectuals in the struggle for Mexico’s democratization.
