This article is aimed at identifying certain situational factors that could explain changes in the leadership style of the new political parties in Mexico and Spain. The author thus explores the cases of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Morena), Pablo Iglesias (Podemos), and Albert Rivera (Ciudadanos). The structure of the article is as follows: review of the literature on leadership styles in crises contexts; definition of the theoretical framework; review of the historical context; description of the methodological proposal, focused on the context analysis used to measure leadership styles; classification of leadership styles in various periods; identification of some situational factors that may account for changes in leadership styles; conclusions and future prospects.
