CRUZ HERMIDA, Gisselle de la  y  VALENZUELA MENDOZA, Rafael Enrique. Transgressive Contentious Politics and Ideology of the Parliamentary Elite in Argentina and Ecuador. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2021, vol.66, n.243, pp.265-293.  Epub 31-Ene-2022. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2021.243.67861.

This article aims to explore the impact of social protest on the ideology of the political elite. Contentious politics theory identifies in the process of polarization the ability to give all political issues ideological connotations, which is connected to the ideology of the political elite. In the first part, the theoretical guidelines of contentious politics are described to compare two episodes: the Cacerolazo in Argentina and the Rebelión de los Forajidos in Ecuador. The second part explores changes in the ideology of the parliamentary elite, using indicators of ideological coherence, polarization, fragmentation and the effective number of parties. Thus, the main objective is to identify whether there are any changes in these indicators after episodes. The work has an exploratory scope and is expected to find evidence that reveals variations in ideology of the parliamentary elite in the aftermath of the transgressive contentious episodes.
