VILLEGAS, Pascale. A Military Medal for Killing Maya Rebels (1901-1905). Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2017, vol.50, pp.137-156. ISSN 0185-2574. https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ecm.2017.50.843.
In May 1901, the Mexican army commanded by General Bravo ended the conflict of the Caste War, which lasted more than 50 years in the Yucatan Peninsula. The end of this war resounded in all the national newspapers as being the big triumph of the Mexican people against the rebel and barbarian Mayas. After an analysis of the impact of this news in national and international papers, we focus our attention on a little-known event which is the delivery of a military medal in gold, silver and bronze from the Yucatan Government with the authorization of the Federal Government for over 8,000 soldiers of the Federal Army and the Guardia Nacional who participated during the last battle in Chan Santa Cruz and in previous battles.
