Resumen

CASTILLO LOPEZ, Samuel  y  TORRES CARRAL, Guillermo Arturo. Milpa and Mayan Knowledge in San Sebastian Yaxche, Peto, Yucatan. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2022, vol.59, pp.171-189.  Epub 19-Abr-2022. ISSN 0185-2574.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ecm.59.22x876.

The present work was developed in the Mayan community of San Sebastian Yaxche, Peto, Yucatan, with the objective of systematizing the traditional agricultural knowledge we found among milperos. Following a qualitative approach, from January 2018 through July 2019, we obtained information through semi-structured interviews with 16 milperos over 40 years of age. The results showed that a large amount of ancestral knowledge in the way their ancestors worked the milpa is still present in older people; therefore, it is urgent that they are transmitted to the younger ones through agricultural work, thus, avoiding their disappearance. This, thanks to the testimonies provided by the people interviewed.

Palabras llave : milpa; traditional agricultural knowledge; Mayan cabañuelas; agricultural ceremonies; lunar phases.
