Resumen

O’PHELAN GODOY, Scarlett. Indigenous People in the Discourses, Debates and Political Projects of the Independence of Peru. Estud. hist. mod. contemp. Mex [online]. 2021, n.spe1, pp.11-59.  Epub 22-Mar-2022. ISSN 0185-2620.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24485004e.2021.1e.77723.

This paper studies the presence of the indigenous people in the Independence process of Peru. Firstly, the performance of the Inca deputy Dionisio Uchu Inca Yupanqui in the Cortes of Cadiz, and the impact of the liberal constitution of 1812 on the indigenous communities of the viceroyalty of Peru are analyzed. Secondly, an approximation to the government boards (juntas de gobierno) of the Peruvian territory is made. Thirdly, the position of José de San Martín’s Protectorate in respect to the indigenous people is explored. Fourthly, the indigenous measures decreed by Simón Bolívar from Cuzco are examined. The essay ends with a brief reflection about the participation of the ethnic group called cholo (a mixture of Indigenous People and Mestizo), who had lacked sufficient attention until now.
