This articles presents an analysis and an interpretation of the discourse that is built about the relationship between ethics and the scientist's occupations; the author states the meanings of professional ethics with regard to professional identity and the formation of scientists, its dissemination strategies within the institution and its effects of power. The central point of the ethical discourse is honesty, but it is covered and influenced by the epistemological discourse. The competitiveness and the erasing of the subject are identity strategies in the constitution of the scientific character; sheltered by the job's prestige, they are part of a political strategy. The discourse helps to construct an ethicity whose referent is scientificity, but this ethicity is not equitable and it finally harms the scientificity.
