Resumen

GALAZ FONTES, Jesús Francisco. La satisfacción en el trabajo de académicos en una universidad pública estatal. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2002, vol.24, n.96, pp.47-72. ISSN 0185-2698.

Using the information generated by a survey of academics in a public state university, global and specific satisfaction levels were measured for the full-time faculty that answered the survey. Global job satisfaction was high, as well as that related to teaching and individual autonomy. In contrast, satisfaction levels were lower when research, professional development, academic participation in academic decisions, and contextual work factors as supervision, evaluation and salary. were taken into consideration. When results were disaggregated by type of academic unit (school, faculty, and institute), type of discipline (with and without an external job market), and highest degree (licentiature, masters, and doctorate), results followed different patterns. Highest degree generated the most results' differentiation, with doctors, while being more satisfied with their research activities, maintain a more critical view of their institutional reality and report a lower global level of job satisfaction. These results are discussed in the context of the existing literature, and their implications for the academic profession in Mexico are commented.
