Resumen

CARRILLO REGALADO, Salvador  y  RIOS ALMODOVAR, Jesús Gerardo. Employment opportunities for students the University of Guadalajara and other Mexican educational institutions: A comparative analysis. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.144, pp.85-104. ISSN 0185-2698.

This paper provides a comparative analysis of the factors that explain the working conditions and working hours of senior students from the University of Guadalajara (UDG is the Spanish acronym) alongside the average for universities throughout Mexico. The comparison was performed utilizing probabilistic regression models, Ordinary Squared Minimum (OSM) solutions and survey data from the UDG and the National Survey on Occupation and Employment (ENOE is the Spanish acronym), carried out during Q409. Among the findings are a greater impact on gaining meaningful employment due to parent-student transfer, in the case of the UDG; furthermore, amongst students from both the UDG and the other Mexican universities, there was a greater propensity to gain work in the administrative, biological, agricultural and social economic areas, together with the sciences and the humanities. Moreover, with regard to the working day, due to a reduction in the payment of hourly wages, there is a resulting increase in the working hours.
