ALFAGEME-GONZALEZ, María Begoña y NIETO CANO, José Miguel. Teachers in Spain’s obligatory education and continuing education activities. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.158, pp.148-165. ISSN 0185-2698.
The purposes of this article are to study whether teachers in obligatory education participate in teacher education programs, to determine the typology of these educational modalities, and to assess the degree to which teachers take advantage of them. Information was gathered from 1,413 teachers in obligatory education through convenience sampling in a number of autonomous communities in Spain. Results indicate high levels of participation by teachers in education modalities managed by education administration through Teachers’ Centers, and specify individual technical training, particularly courses and workshops, as the predominant modalities. It can be concluded that teachers’ continuing education is primarily through “training” or “consumer” oriented modalities.
