AGUILAR NERY, Jesús. Thomas Popkewitz's social epistemology: A critical reading from the point of view of Carlos Pereda's phenomenology of argumentative experience. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2020, vol.42, n.170, pp.154-168. Epub 04-Feb-2021. ISSN 0185-2698. https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2020.170.59321.
The present paper is a critical reading of the theoretical stance of the American researcher Thomas Popkewitz, establishing both its scope and its limits from the perspective of Carlos Pereda’s phenomenology of the argumentative experience. First, we define what Popkewitz calls “social epistemology” while highlighting its strengths. Secondly, we describe the reconstruction of a point of view which we have called “of negativity”. Thirdly, certain edges of this point of view are analyzed, based on two argumentative vertigos in Popkewitz's work: 1) the negative; and 2) the descriptive. The essay concludes with some reflections about the reading, which warn against making domesticated and uncritical applications of the approaches of the American professor.
