OCEGUEDA HERNANDEZ, Marco Tulio; PIMIENTA GALLARDO, Raúl Barutch y MUNGARAY LAGARDA, Alejandro. Higher education, industry and economic growth in Mexico: A pending challenge in the country’s economic agenda. Rev. educ. sup [online]. 2022, vol.51, n.201, pp.111-131. Epub 29-Mayo-2023. ISSN 0185-2760. https://doi.org/10.36857/resu.2022.201.2024.
The impact of stem careers on productivity, industrial activity and economic growth in Mexico is analyzed. The results allow us to maintain that the educational policy at the higher level, implemented during the 2010-2015 period, has not been effective in generating better economic conditions. This is explained by a low rate of graduation in careers related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as by the presence of a weak industrial sector, with little dynamism, which has failed to translate the effects of higher education into higher growth rates.
