Resumen
HINOJO ANDRES, Gregorio. Tácito y el Barroco Fúnebre. Nova tellus [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.2, pp.219-243. ISSN 0185-3058. https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2006.24.2.183.
In this paper the author analyses the techniques and procedures employed by Tacitus in the Annales in order to increase the feeling of death, terror and cruelty. These feelings have been masterly summarized by R. Barthes in the syntagm “funeral Baroque”. Although it was Tacitus the author who raised the literary expression of those feelings to its highest level of quality, there are however some precedents of this literary feature in other writers of the 1st century A. D. Special attention is payed to the description of the murder of Nero’s mother as well as to Petron suicide, which according to the author, are appropriate examples of the stylistic strategies of Tacitus and of the brutality of the historical period he had to deal with.
