REVELES TORRES, Luis Roberto; VELASQUEZ VALLE, Rodolfo; MAURICIO CASTILLO, Jorge Armando  y  SALAS MUNOZ, Silvia. Detection of Mixed Infections Caused by Begomovirus and Curtovirus in Chili pepper for drying plants in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.2, pp.155-160. ISSN 2007-8080.

Viral infections are one of the most important diseases of chili peppers for drying in north central Mexico. Mixed viral infections are common in chili plants worldwide, however, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico there is no information about curtovirus and begomovirus infecting chili pepper plants; therefore, the aim of this study was to obtain information on the presence of geminivirus infecting chili for drying with a common symptomatology. Ten chili pepper plants (Capsicum annuum "Mirasol") with typical yellowing symptoms were collected and analyzed using molecular techniques to detect the presence of begomovirus and curtovirus. As for curtovirus, Beet mild curly top virus (BMCTV) was found in all samples analyzed, while as for begomovirus, Pepper huasteco yellow vein virus (PHYVV) and Pepper golden mosaic virus (PepGMV) were found in eight and ten of the total samples collected, respectively. It is important to mention that in only two of the ten samples PepGMV was present and it was not related to PHYVV.

Palabras llave : Yellowing; mixed viral infection; geminivirus; molecular detection.
