Ledgers kept by the Public Scribe of the Cathedral Chapter of Santiago de Chile contain records of the sale -at auction- of the Bishop's belongings, left upon his death in 1704. This article presents themes for reflection that emerge from the list of the Bishops' books (among other properties), suggests guidelines for a social, intellectual and cultural history based on an examination of the Acts recorded in Notaries in the Kingdom of Chile, and highlights aspects of the Bishop's political legacy.
