The article reviews the development of some of the most important publications in the children’s press in the late 19th and early 20th century in Colombia. The purpose is to analyze some of the continuities and discontinuities in the children’s press project in the country, and to track certain academic and political ideas that emerged at the time regarding the social place childhood should occupy, their roles, their characteristics as a social group and the national need to consolidate editorial products for children. The methodology consisted of the analysis and review of primary and secondary sources. In conclusion, it is pointed out that the children’s press genre is an important reflection of the social change that occurred from the late 19th century onwards in the perception of the notion of childhood in the country.
