MARTINEZ-LEGUIZAMO, Jeisson Oswaldo. A Colombian LGTBIQ+ Exile. An Approach Based on the Experience of Manuel Antonio Velandia an Exiled Homosexual Activist in Spain. Secuencia [online]. 2022, n.114, e2092. Epub 07-Feb-2023. ISSN 2395-8464. https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i114.2092.
This paper assesses the experience of Manuel Antonio Velandia Mora, Colombia homosexual movement activist and reference, exiled in Spain after being a victim of political persecution in Colombia. It goes into the content of his testimony by applying the biographical analysis method. With that aim, it previously includes four sections, necessary to contextualize the problem. Firstly, it defines the concept of exile to use, it frames the Colombian context that causes the expulsions, and it identifies the main research on the issue. The second part focuses on methodology. The two following headings describe the dynamics and data of the violence against LGTBIQ+ population in Colombia. Afterwards, the paper presents the testimony findings in the attempt to establish, through a dense analysis, the connections between the general frameworks of the exile experiences and the features of the protagonist’s trajectory, realizing the links among the subjective, social, and collective levels.
