ARZOLA-GONZALEZ, JF y FLORES-CAMPANA, LM. Alternatives for the use of decapod crustaceans in Estero El Verde Camacho, Sinaloa, Mexico. Universidad y ciencia [online]. 2008, vol.24, n.1, pp.41-48. ISSN 0186-2979.
The decapod crustacean community in Estero El Verde, Camacho, Sinaloa included 31 species, 17 genera and 12 families. The genus Uca (Ocypodidae) was the most common. The swimming crabs Callinectes arcuatus and C. toxotes and the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, L. stylirostris and Farfantepenaeus californiensis were particularly notable among the commercial species. Macrobrachium tenellum and Gecarcinus planatus might represent alternatives for exploitation due to their large size. Species with evident sexual dimorphism such as Uca crenulata, U. zacae, U. princeps, U. latimanus, U. musica and U. vocator, and species with interesting colours such as Goniopsis pulchra could be visually attractive to visitors of the estuary.
