The design of an adaptive observer is presented in this paper. This is a computational sensor that will be used to estimate the inflow and several parameters that are difficult to measure in open tanks, such as the discharge coefficient. A mathematical model for an open tank is proposed by means of a nonlinear system. Furthermore, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee the convergence of the observer. Simulation results indicate possible applications in water tanks.
