Resumen

HERNANDEZ CURIEL, Myrna et al. Process of appropriating a new habitat. The case of the sustainable rural city Nuevo Juan del Grijalva in Chiapas, Mexico. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.2, pp.465-500. ISSN 2448-6515.

Bronfenbrenner's ecological model makes it possible to observe how various factors interact in a change of habitat and to understand the living adjustments made by the resettled population. This article explores the appropriation process after relocation in a sustainable rural city (SRC), Nuevo Juan del Grijalva, in Chiapas, Mexico. The results of a household survey are used to characterize the resettled population, and the spatial transformations and psychological appropriation of the resulting space when a new habitat is inhabited are analyzed. The results show the loss of rural production practices and alternatives for achieving independence and obtaining housing in the SRC.
