VALETTE, Jean-François. Residential mobility and anchorages in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico: Socio-spatial division in the peripheral popular neighborhoods. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.2, pp.371-425. Epub 27-Jun-2022. ISSN 2448-6515. https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v37i2.2057.
In the Mexican metropolis, as elsewhere, intra-urban residential mobility is an important driver of the reconfiguration of the socio-spatial divide. In the popular neighborhoods, poverty is predominant; however, this characteristic is insufficient to explain these spaces. The objective is to understand the mechanisms of residential anchoring, as well as the socio-spatial recompositions that these imply. Through the analysis of census data and exploratory surveys, emphasis is placed on the articulation of places and the variety of experiences of the inhabitants, rendering obsolete the unique approaches in terms of systematic relegation-consolidation, or fragmentation.
