BAHAMONDES GONZALEZ, Luis Andrés y MARIN ALARCON, Nelson. Social Fear and Religion: Reflections Based on Urban Chilean Pentecostalism. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.78, pp.99-138. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article analyzes the relationship between certain social fears in Chilean society and the way pentecostalism approaches them. We will say that fear, as a factor for breaks and social cohesion, constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of the Pentecostal discursive structure. Fear of the supernatural, the devil, or "The Enemy" intertwine with the fears that modern society seems to serve up in huge quantities. Thus, the associative factor developed in a hostile, individualistic, materialist environment typical of large cities seems to find alternatives in the Pentecostal faith.
