JARAMILLO-VAZQUEZ, Alejandra. Labor Precariousness in the Cultural Sector: Consequences for Male and Female Artists Personal Lives in Mexico City. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.105, e0008. Epub 18-Nov-2022. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article examines the working situation of Mexico City visual and performing artists, underlining the hard data of their working conditions and their consequences in their personal lives. The author did twenty-eight qualitative on-line interviews with artists from the ages of twenty-four to forty-one between September 2020 and February 2021. The results show that they all worked in precarious jobs with oppressive consequences for their lives. She argues that labor precariousness is a complex, multidimensional process, whose interlinked and inter-dependent elements affect individuals’ lives both professionally and personally.
