BERLANGA-PADILLA, Angélica M. et al. Identification of Lecanicillium longisporum associated with Melanaphis sacchari (Hemiptera: Aphididae), in sorghum. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2016, vol.44, pp.51-54. ISSN 0187-3180.
In January 2016, the presence of mycosis on Melanaphis sacchari populations was observed in Tecomán, Colima. The infected specimens showed white coloration with yellow shades similar to Lecanicillium lecanii, reported as pathogenic species of aphids, considering the importance of the pest, the identification of the entomopathogenic was performed. The morphological identification was carried out in mummified insects and from in vitro cultures. The morphological study and multi-gene analysis showed that the fungus associated to M. sacchari corresponded to Lecanicillium longisporum. This study reported for the first time the association of L. longisporum with M. sacchari. Accurate identification of fungi controlling plant pests is essential in the search of more promising strains for the development of microbial insecticides.
