LOPEZ ROMERO, Marcela et al. Physicochemical properties of treated clinoptilolite with fertilizers to use as additive to the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.3, pp.247-254. ISSN 2395-8030.
The physicochemical properties of clinoptilolite zeolite from Tehuacan, Puebla, Mexico, were studied for its use as an additive in the substrate for cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus mushrooms. These studies included X-ray diffraction, high resolution N2 adsorption at 77.5 K and determination of the chemical composition. The clinoptilolite was crushed, grounded, and heated, and then subjected to a series of chemical treatments via solutions of CO(NH2)2 0.123 M (N), KCl 0.230 M (K), Ca(H2PO4)2 0.079 M (P) and NH4NO3 + Ca(H2PO4)2 + KCl 0.040 M (NPK) for 2 days. The X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that the crystalline structure of the clinoptilolite samples remained intact after treatment with the above solutions. The specific surface (AsB) using the BET method (Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller) resulted as follows: AsB: NPK > P > K > CLINA > N. Determination of the chemical composition of the zeolite demonstrated that the nutrients were deposited within the clinoptilolite structure.
