Resumen

ALMARAZ ALVARADO, Araceli. El boom de las empresas extranjeras en el valle de Mexicali: Efectos en las relaciones empresariales locales (1912-1930). Frontera norte [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.37, pp.113-142. ISSN 2594-0260.

A major event in Mexicali's economic history was the arrival of foreign companies at the beginning of the 20th century, particularly between 1916 and 1930. Although the participation of foreign capital in the Colorado River Delta began towards the end of the 19th century, the initiation of the first stages of irrigation in 1901 created a true opportunity for agricultural development in the region. After 1915, the productive activities and the population of Mexicali experienced great dynamism, due to the high intensity of cotton production and land sales. But what were the characteristics of the arrival of these foreign companies? Where did this capital come from, and for what type of activities was it destined? What type of entrepreneurs led these companies? And above all, what impacts did the presence of foreign investment have on business relationships within Mexicali?

Palabras llave : businesses; entrepreneurs; commercial companies; social relations; Mexicali Valley.
