The housing has acquired importance in the world's agendas on urban development. This article proposes a review on the conditions that space of human living offers, central for the development. The housing's conditions in urban areas (from 15 thousand inhabitants and up) of the north of the country are observed regarding the past three decades. It is relevant to observe this phenomenon regarding of the states north of Mexico's economic performance, which have shown positive changes in economic growth since the half of the last century. A norm's evaluation of the housing's conditions is made by using data of the samples of the census of population and house of 1990 and 2000.
