DOMINGUEZ BRIONES, Renato Alberto et al. Intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome. Rev. Asoc. Mex. Med. Crít. Ter. Intensiva [online]. 2015, vol.29, n.3, pp.167-178. ISSN 0187-8433.
Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) are associated with organ dysfunction and increased mortality in critically ill patients. The definition of consensus and treatment guidelines have been developed by the World Society of the Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (WSACS) to raise awareness of IAH and ACS and standardize its prevention, diagnosis and management. Complications of HIA and SCA can be fatal for critically ill patients. IAH and ACS have been recognized for two centuries. Changes in the management of surgical and medical patients have included increased use of damage control surgery and resuscitation catheter -based percutaneous minimally invasive therapies, goal-directed therapy for severe sepsis, and a greater appreciation of the risks of excess resuscitation.
