By using the concepts “conspicuous consumption” and “forms of capital”, this article analyzes practices of consumption among members of the Mexican upper class as a way to communicate their position in the social space. The universe for this study consists of 36 people from Mexico’s economic elite, who participated in in-depth interviews about their tastes, practices and meanings regarding the consumption of material and symbolic goods.
