Resumen
TORRES DE LA ROSA, Danaé. Contemporaneos and the canonization of the novel of the Revolution: Prestige and education as ideals of the reconstituted nation. Lit. mex [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.2, pp.171-196. ISSN 2448-8216.
In this work I analyze the role played by Contemporáneos in the canonization of the novel of the Revolution, from the participation of Novo and Villaurrutia in the controversy of El Universal Ilustrado (where the importance of Azuela in modern national literature was signaled), until the publication of La luciérnaga and La malhora in Contemporáneos, just at the key moment for the critical reception of Los de abajo. Ortiz de Montellano wrote a pair of articles which signaled the modernity of Azuela, and Jaime Torres Bodet would directly influence the consolidation of the genre in solidifying the educational reform which led to the creation of the free textbook program. These distinct initiatives illustrate the manner in which Contemporáneos, as representatives of the cultured upper class that took power, would determine the cultural trajectory of post-revolutionary Mexico.
