There have been analyzed the multiple strategies for social reproduction of corn producers in the state of Tlaxcala and its effect on the multiple activities handling the corn and other resources as well as the human and sustainable resources. For this purpose it was used the information collected in a survey conducted in the year 2002 to a sample of 1884 corn producers. Results show that besides producing corn, 74% sell their labour force working in different activities in order to survive; a sixth part of producers or their relatives have to emigrate to send money back home. Even thou primary activities (planting maize, livestock and recollecting of goods) represents less economic resources, it is a strategy of great importance that guarantee the social reproduction of farmers. Finally no evidence was found to show that agricultural policies have contributed in improving productivity, social welfare and sustainability of the natural resources of corn producers in the state of Tlaxcala.
