PALACIO PRIETO, José Luis; LOPEZ BLANCO, Jorge  y  ORTIZ PEREZ, Mario A.. Evaluación geomorfológica estructural a través de modelos sombreados y pares estereoscópicos generados a partir de modelos digitales de terreno. Invest. Geog [online]. 1991, n.23, pp.89-101. ISSN 2448-7279.

A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a digital representation of the terrain; that is, a set of points whose x, y and z coordinates are recorded in a database. Block diagrams are oblique representations of terrain generated from a DEM. Commonly, a "fishnet" graphic mode is used, although it is also possible to represent continuous surfaces, such as maps and satellite images. Hill shaded models are obtained from DEM through directional filtering. Through this procedure it is possible to simulate shaded maps considering different positions of the source of light. This paper aims to show the use shaded models and oblique representations in order to make stereopairs, through which geomorphological anlyses of structures (lineaments) can be done, especially in those cases in which, for some reason, aerial photographs and/or satellite imagery are not available. This methodology has a number of advantages in comparison to the traditional methods in structural geomorphology, in which aerial photographs and/or satellite imagery are widely used.
