Resumen

SCARPATI, Olga Eugenia  y  CAPRIOLO, Alberto D.. Droughts and floods in Buenos Aires province (Argentina) and their space and temporal distribution. Invest. Geog [online]. 2013, n.82, pp.38-51. ISSN 2448-7279.

Buenos Aires province, major producer in argentine agriculture, has been the scene of extreme hydrological events (droughts and floods) of varying severity over time. Many of them caused disasters while others only alter the normal conditions of some areas. The events have been studied from different disciplines and so, different scales of time and space; despite this, there is a lack of studies that take into account the soil water content. In this paper, first, we analyze the evolution of wet and dry events around since the year 1600 (colonial era) to 2008. Furthermore, we applied a soil water balance model using daily data of precipitation and soil hydrological constants (based on data obtained in situ). The result was the distribution of the soil water surplus and deficit, considered as triggers of the extreme hydrological events. Finally, the annual values of soil water surplus and deficit were analyzed from the period 1969-2008 in 16 sectors of the province, determined according their basins, and there were exposed the results in maps with the spatial-temporal distribution.

Palabras llave : Drought; flood; soil water surplus; soil water deficit; Buenos Aires province.
