CASTRO-ORTIZ, Lourdes Patricia; LUNA PABELLO, Víctor Manuel  y  VILLALOBOS PIETRINI, Rafael. State of the art and perspectives on the use of environmental biosensors in Mexico. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2007, vol.23, n.1, pp.35-45. ISSN 0188-4999.

An environmental biosensor is an analytical tool that combines a biological sensing element with a transducer to get a rapid, proportional, accurate and sensitive detection of single or mixed substances present in the environment. The aim of this review is to highlight the actual uses and perspectives of environmental biosensors in México. After reviewing the biotech research that it is being carried out for biosensor research, some groups were identified and we found they are focused in human health and detection of analytical compounds. Two of them, use nanotechnology in order to stabilize the biological element and to get the best detection response. In México, the environmental deterioration represents an excellent opportunity to develop and to applicate environmental biosensors. For example, using whole cells (indigenous edafic ciliates) coupled with a potentiometer to detect soil pollutants (pesticides)
