This article discusses a case study oriented to analyze the compliance cost for reducing PM₁₀ (Particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter ≤10 µm) emissions from industrial sources and residential wood burning. The results show that it is more efficient, from an economic perspective, to reduce PM₁₀ emissions from residential sources than the emissions from industrial sources. If the Environmental Authority only targets industrial sources for emission reductions, it would be more cost-effective for them to offset PM₁₀ emissions through programs oriented to upgrade current residential wood heaters.
