Resumen

CARDACI, Dora  y  SANCHEZ BRINGAS, Ángeles. Until We Get It... Academic Works on Assisted Reproduction in Mexican Publications. Alteridades [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.38, pp.21-40. ISSN 2448-850X.

As a result of assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), the ways in which individuals become parents are increasingly diverse. For many years, research in ARTs was mainly dominated by the medical sciences. This paper examines postgraduate thesis and literature about ARTs produced from a social scientific perspective and published in Mexican journals and books within the past two decades. This research concludes that when attention is paid to ARTs outside the medical sciences, it is mainly within the areas of bioethics and law; in addition, studies consistently show that biomedical, judicial and socio-cultural discourses reinforce traditional stereotypes of heterosexual conjugality, family and parenting.

Palabras llave : assisted reproduction; feminism; reproductive health; bioethics.
