This work seeks to understand the current impact of the ethnic alderman's profile on the social and political organization of the tohono o'otham population, as well as their identity processes. This figure was created in 1997 at a local level, as a result of the transformations to the legal frame in Sonora, Mexico, in indigenous matters. Thus, it tries to establish the particularities of this figure, of the process for its designation, its institutional validation and the questioning raised about their appointment and performance.
