Resumen

GUTIERREZ SANCHEZ, Héctor. Electoral confidence and opinion about the winning candidate. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.60, 00009.  Epub 31-Abr-2024. ISSN 0188-7653.  https://doi.org/10.18504/pl3060-009-2022.

Mexico has a generally robust electoral system; nevertheless, suspicion of electoral fraud is common place. This article proposes that electoral distrust may be related to a bad opinion of the winner. Thru multiple regression models it was found that the opinion of the winner candidate is related to the confidence in the election, regardless of whether the voter supported a winning or losing candidate. Also, the president’s evaluation was related to trust in the electoral institute. This supports the idea that citizens may think something is off with the elections when a -according to them- bad candidate wins the election.

Palabras llave : elections; trust; electoral fraud; public opinion; electoral institute.
