Resumen

GARCIA JURADO, Roberto. Del profeta armado al vicario saboyano: La religión civil en Maquiavelo y Rousseau. Polít. cult. [online]. 2012, n.38, pp.09-28. ISSN 0188-7742.

Machiavelli and Rousseau are two authors with a lot of common features, but with important differences too. For example, they are very close because their strong republicanism, but they are diametrically opposed about the conception of human nature. However, they have a very similar opinion in respect to the religion and the relationship with the state: the religion is a fundamental ground to the stability of the state. In fact, they agree about the religion must be a civil one; the essential objective of the religion is to strengthen the civic relationship between people with the objective to establish the best foundations to the state. This paper analyses essentially the coincidences in this topic of this authors.
