GARDUNO-LOPEZ, Ana Lilia; CASTRO-GARCES, Lisette y ACOSTA-NAVA, Víctor Manuel. Evaluation of postoperative pain, standardization of protocols of action, and continuous improvement based on goals and results. Rev. mex. anestesiol. [online]. 2019, vol.42, n.3, pp.160-166. Epub 13-Sep-2021. ISSN 0484-7903.
The assessment of postoperative pain using unidimensional scales such as the verbal analog scale (VAS), are being abandoned. Currently the evaluation is made based on the activities that, according to the type of surgery, the patient can perform during the first hours of postoperative period. The treatment of pain requires an organizational framework, which must include the design of protocols that allow continuous improvement based on results, according to the needs of each hospital. The implementation and planning of strategies through internal audits such as the Pain Out system, are a basis for the management of new units of acute pain (visithttp://www.painoutmexico.com ).
