The formal studies in Chemistry at Puebla began in the XVIII and XIX centuries, focused mainly on Pharmacy. During the 20th century they were broadened to other areas of Chemistry. In 1921 started the program for Pharmaceutical Chemist. In 1946 was created the career of Technical Chemist which in 1952 became to Chemist. In the seventies appeared the first research groups and during the eighties and nineties several of them reached a good level of scientific development. In 1984 started the program for Master in Chemistry and in 1994 the Ph D. program in Organic Chemistry. In 2000 Ph. D. studies in Chemistry included the areas of Physical-Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry.
