Resumen

OLVERA SERRANO, Margarita. Local Identities, Space and Foreigner. San Miguel Allende and Stirling Dickinson. Hist. graf [online]. 2023, n.61, pp.127-160.  Epub 28-Ago-2023. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi61.470.

This paper examines the processes of the transformation experienced by San Miguel de Allende since the arrival of Stirling Dickinson as a resident in 1934, based on the relationships between the concepts of space, border, foreigner and identity. This character’s presence as a resident for more than half a century is deeply linked to the cultural, social, and symbolic processes that resulted in the conversion of a practically unknown town into Cultural Heritage of Humanity; in the formation of one of the most important American communities in Mexico; as well as in the redefinition of the cultural identity of San Miguel de Allende from a foreigner’s perspective. This work’s historiographical contribution lies in the association it makes between conceptual reflection and observation.

Palabras llave : space; foreigner; frontier; identity; Stirling Dickinson.
