GUTIERREZ, Goneril Paloma; ORDONEZ BARBA, Gerardo Manuel  y  YASCHINE ARROYO, Iliana. Intergenerational Education Mobility in Young Beneficiaries of Progresa-Oportunidades-Prospera, 1997-2017. Gest. polít. pública [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.2, pp.1-34.  Epub 19-Feb-2024. ISSN 1405-1079.  https://doi.org/10.60583/gypp.v31i2.1255.

The Progresa-Oportunidades-Prospera program was intended to increase human capital of its young beneficiaries in order to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty, therefore, it gave an important impulse to the increase of educational strata. This research aims to analyze the educational mobility that a group of young rural beneficiaries has reached since the beginning of the program. Based on the theory of social intergenerational mobility, the study group is analyzed by means of quantitative techniques and using the Panel ENCEL 1997-2017 as a statistical input. Results reveal mainly ascending changes (80%) in the educational levels obtained by the young compared to their parents. The highest degree of mobility was seen across women, indigenous people and migrants. Results show positive but still modest advances as most of the beneficiaries barely reached secondary school, a level which is insufficient to compete for a quality job in the labor market.
