Thoroughly, this article looks over the catholic church’s role in women education in the frame work of reforms which took place in Colombia in the middle of the 19th century, showing, in deed, how the project of national secularization was quite weak. Furthermore, it analyzes the State-Church con nections and conditions under which this institution acted inside the system of public in struction and the fugacity of Civil Marriage Law.
