Resumen

HINOJOSA-PAREJA, Eva Francisca; ARENAS-ORTIZ, María  y  LOPEZ-LOPEZ, Mª Carmen. The Earth Charter in compulsory education from an international perspective. Convergencia [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.66, pp.65-92. ISSN 2448-5799.

The Earth Charter arises as a civil society initiative in 2000. From the beginning, it is endorsed by institutions and international organizations like UNESCO, which supported its contents in 2003, and incorporated it as an educational tool in international projects, such as "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)" promoted by UN. This article explores international experiences that resort to the Earth Charter as an element of innovation in the field of compulsory education (Nursery, Primary and Secondary). A decade after publication of the Earth Charter, and through content analysis of these experiences, we aim to analyze the trajectory, the level of commitment assumed by the educational field and promote dialogue and the gradual awareness about Earth Charter and its relevance for education.

Palabras llave : Earth Charter; eco-pedagogy; compulsory education; educational innovation; environmental ewareness.
