AZAR, Paola et al. "Is brief that space in which you are not?" Gender inequalities in academic economic history in Uruguay. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.1, e1329. Epub 03-Feb-2023. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/20073496.1329.
This article provides evidence on the gender inequalities which feature the academic practice of economic history in Uruguay. It is based on data about careers, academic production, and perceptions of the members of the Uruguayan Association of Economic History. Along with the increasing professionalization of the academic field, we find that women have tended to lag behind in their institutional participation, their completion of upper studies, and the beginning of their academic career. We identify a "glass ceiling", gender segregation in the research agendas and a stagnant participation of female authors in the overall production. In terms of perceptions, even though the academic community recognizes gender disparities, women mostly attribute them to the labor organization system while men emphasize women’s attitudes.
