In scientific literature contrasting results have been reported concerning the relationship between bulk density (pj and soil penetration resistance (cone index = CI). The objective of this study was to demonstrate that there is a significant correlation between p_a and CI if sampling is conducted with moisture content at field capacity and sampling depth in soil with high gravel content is controlled. The regression equation obtained explained 60 % of the variability of ρ_a from CI and soil plasticity.
