GOMEZ NASHIKI, Antonio. El movimiento estudiantil y la violencia institucional. La Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, 1956-1966. RMIE [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.35, pp.1179-1208. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article analyzes the student movement at Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo from 1956 to 1966. During this decade, four university strikes occurred in a context of profound institutional change. The characteristics of the student movement were marked by a new composition of demands and actions, ranging from purely student aspects to social aspects outside of the university, in an attitude that mixed intellectual elitism and populist mysticism-a trait common to the movements studied. The violent reaction to the student movement modified institutional relations, crushing the movement, the institution and established norms while erasing any possible logic of understanding. The student movement in Michoacán, after its defeat, would fall into a state of prostration that would last for several years.
