LEAL CARRETERO, Fernando y SURO SANCHEZ, Judith. Tasks of Phonological Awareness in Preschool: A Review of the Test Employed among the Spanish-speaking Population. RMIE [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.54, pp.729-757. ISSN 1405-6666.
This study aims at reviewing the tests employed to identify and measure phonological awareness among Spanish-speaking children of preschool age. We compare the different tasks contained in these tests from the viewpoint of the types of cognitive process they stimulate, the varieties of phonological awareness they involve, and the range of decisions that researchers consciously or unconsciously make when they formulate such tests. An analysis based on strictly linguistic criteria (in other words, phonological) shows that the tasks in use need certain specific corrections, along with the inclusion of phonological phenomena that have been neglected to date; they could also be made more homogeneous. If the tasks were changed in this manner, we would be able to comprehend and quantify the true weight of phonological awareness as a precursor of reading in Spanish.
