GUEVARA BENITEZ, Yolanda y RUGERIO, Juan Pablo. Teacher-Student Interactions during Story Time in Mexican Preschools. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.74, pp.729-749. ISSN 1405-6666.
Emergent literacy occurs as preschoolers interact with their linguistic community, which must prepare them in the use of oral language, lead them to writing, and promote their conceptual development. The objective of the observational study we present was to analyze the relationship between the actions of preschool teachers and the types of interaction and behaviors their students show during story time. For this reason, the classroom interactions of four teachers and their students were filmed during eight class sessions. The results indicate that the teachers show some skills as the readers and narrators of stories, but few skills in promoting linguistic interactions in the classroom and in doing incidental teaching.
